This is the final reflcetion for my time attending MUN. Over the year of my commitment to the activity, I have engaged in so many mentally challenging yer invigorating learning experiences. For instance, doing debates with students from other schools challenged my tendancy to be shy and somewhat retreat into my shell. I was forced to be bold, confident and clear. I think i also learned that a new way to be all these things is to know what you are talking about. I hand quite realized before, but if you have put in the time and the effort to do your research thoroughly and completely, then confidence in yourself comes naturally, for you no longer have this looming insecurity that you will mess up or say something wrong. This was an interesting thing to come to understand practically not just as an abstract idea. Seeing as I also attended THIMUN (an international MUN conference held in The Hague) with the rest of the IST team representing Lithuania, I came to understand the kind of commitment that it takes to work effectively as a collaborative group. We had to depend on each other to represent us well in the debating space but also socially - being friendly and respectful reflects well on everyone in your group. Even in debating spaces where we were disagreeing with other countries there was a sense that the whole event is one big collaboration, we still had to work with and alongside people with the opposite view to have the most fruitful debates. It was interesting to me to learn that opposition.disagreement can be a tool for collaboration because it is what fed the debates and kept them lively and interesting. In the end it was like we all collaborated to provide each other with the most interesting and invigorating learning experiences that we could. This, I think is a beautiful thing. Reflecting on all of this, it is good to see that beyond the obvious things that one would expect to gain from and international conference such as new perspectives on global value and ethics, I also gained skills in more subtle areas such as commitment and collaboration. This final reflection is a documentation of how grateful I am to have been in the position to obtain all of these outcomes as an IB student.
