Today was our second session of Hip Hop and Arts and it was very interesting ! there were two guest speakers and artists who told us a little about the kind of art their me and for what cause and then, of corse, showed us a few samples. This was very interesting to me because i and never considered that i could personally use y own art for a cause to help the greater community. I ha only every though of my art as being for reflect or introspect purposes and never really considered that perhaps i am expressing universal sentiments or even that I would use my own art to encourage social change! That has always seemed like a goal far beyond my own circle of influence but this session really taught me that my circle of influence is very much under my own control! If i want to enact and inspire change thou art, I CAN! that was a very powerful realization for me! We then had to work collaboratively to come up with ideas for a mural (for those doing visual arts) and we came up with domestic abuse, dynamite fishing, drug abuse, and gender equality as prevalent issues in dar that we could try and influence progress in a positive direction for. I don't have certainty for what the result of this project will be but I must say that I feel empowered and emboldened by the thought of it.
